Our Story
Chabad of Williamstown was established in 2025, to serve the Jewish Students at Williams College, the Jewish community of Williamstown and the surrounding areas. Chabad of Williamstown is a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of affiliation or prior level of knowledge. Its sole purpose is to create a warm, welcoming environment to explore and experience Judaism's warm and relevant spiritual inspirations in a non-judgmental and inviting atmosphere.
Since its inception, Chabad of Williamstown strives to meet the needs of the community with religious services, and social events, as well as an array of programming including: Holiday programming, cultural events, Hospital visits, campus outreach etc.
Chabad of Williamstown is a local, independent and financially self-supporting entity. Every dollar that we receive comes from the generosity of people like you.
Meet the Voloviks
Rabbi Mendel and Tzivia Volovik moved to Williamstown and founded Chabad of Williamstown in 2025.
Prior to moving to Williamstown, Rabbi Mendel grew up in Pittsfield, MA, before pursuing studies in Jewish thought and practice in France, Toronto, and NYC (where he received his rabbinical ordination). He is passionate about building meaningful relationships and creating spaces where students and community members feel comfortable, inspired, and proud of their Jewish identity. His infectious optimism and joyful personality drives his commitment and dedication to his community.
Tzivia was born and raised in Hampstead, Quebec, where she attended high school before continuing her studies in Israel. She brings warmth, thoughtfulness, and genuine care to every student and community member she meets. With a natural gift for creating welcoming spaces, she helps make Chabad a true home away from home by hosting meals, building relationships, and being there to listen. She is passionate about helping each student feel seen, valued, and connected to their Jewish identity.
Together, along with their son Yosef, the Volovik's open their home and hearts to students and community members alike, creating a welcoming space filled with friendship, growth, and Jewish life.
